How to Plan a Shaped or 3D Cake
A few practical questions make the difference between a fun idea and a cake that arrives exactly as planned.

Start With Good Reference Photos
For an object, send a photo from the front and from the side. For a person or a pet, send two or three clear pictures that show the face, the hair, the clothes or the markings you want us to keep. The better we can see the details, the more the cake will look like the real thing.

Add a Regular Cake or Cupcakes
A sculpted shape is made to be looked at first, and the guest list does not always match it. Tell us how many people will have a slice. A shaped cake can come together with a regular cake or a set of cupcakes in the same colors, so the centerpiece keeps its form and nobody goes without a portion.

Know What Is Edible
Figures, labels and bows are made of fondant, chocolate or printed sugar paper. A tall figure often stands on a frame that is not edible. We tell you about it when you order, and it has to be taken out before the cake is sliced.

Time the Delivery
A complex 3D cake is best delivered a few hours before the party, not the day before. Keep it in the fridge until it is served and carry the box level. If the cake is going onto a boat or to a beach, tell us when you order so we can plan the design with that in mind.

Are the decorations on a 3D cake edible?
